Basics - Formations
There are 27 formations in FC Mobile. You unlock different formations as you increase in level. Below I will cover the different formations and their strengths, weaknesses and which players are needed for each formation.
433
There are 5 different versions of the 433 formation. 433, 433 attack, 433 defend, 433 Holding and 433 false 9. The main differences being in the midfield (with exception to 433 false 9, but more on that later. All 4 formations have GK, LB, 2 x CB, RB for defence. A LW, a RW and a ST (or CF in false 9)
433 (standard)
This version has 3 X CM, a LW, RW & 1 ST. This version of 433 put an emphasis purely on the 3 CM for your midfield. The benefit here is a strong midfield that helps you to dominate in this part of the field and control play from here. Ideally you could do with 1 x fast CM with good shooting stats. 1 x defence minded CM and 1 x all rounder or passing/dribbling minded.
433 (Attack)
This version has 2 X CM, a CAM, a LW, RW & 1 ST. This is the more attack minded version of the 433 and probably the most popular. For the 2 CM'S your best having a good defensive & physical CM and 1 with better pace and passing & dribbling. The CAM in this formation is the connection between the midfielders and the attackers. A fast and sharp shooting CAM is, as most often the case the best option here, particularly for theore fast paced VSA.
This variant of 433 is the most defensive version. You have 2 x CDM and 1 x CM. With this in mind the sole CM ideally would be an all rounder, but mostly a faster CM with good passing and dribbling. In my opinion at least 1 of the CDM would be faster also.
This version of 433 had 2 x CM and 1 x CDM. Slightly less defensive than the previous version, a CDM with good pace and high/high(att/def) or med/high work rate CDM works well.
The 433 odd one out. In this version you have 2 x CM, 1 x CDM but this time instead of a ST you have CF who sits back behind the wingers almost like a cross between a ST and a CAM. This is probably the least popular variety of 433 used in all modes of the game.
There are 2 types of 41212 formation, both being very popular in all game modes. The 2 versions are wide and narrow. The back is the same as the 433 formations with GK, LB, RB And 2 x CB. They also both feature a CDM, a CAM and 2 X ST. The narrow version sees you line up with 2 x CM while the wide replaces these with a LM and RM. Each formation has different advantages depending on your gameplay and other players in your lineup
41212 (narrow)
This is the narrow version. Featuring the 2 CM at a cost of LM and RM. This version pays to have 2 ballanced CM's or 1 more attacking and 1 more defensive. Ideally in this version your LB and RB should be fast and more attack minded, especially in H2H and MM.
This version sacrifices your 2 CM's and you play with a LM and RM instead. This version is more wing heavy and relies on your CDM and CAM for central play. Ideally here the CAM should have High/med or High/High workrate and your CDM should have Med/High or High/High workrate.
There are 4 variants of the 442 formation - All 4 feature a back 4 of 2 x CB 1 x LB and 1x RB There is the standard 442 known across the world, 442 holding which is a more defensive version. 4222 which swaps your L&R Midfielders, for 2 CAMS. Then Finally 424 which swaps your left and right midfielders for a LW and RW making this a more attacking version of the formation.
442
The Standard 442 - The OG formation - 2 X CM, 1 X LM, 1 X RM & 2 X ST. The focus on this formation is in the Midfield. More Balanced, The LB and RB can be more defensive with this formation, utilising the RM and LM for attacking. Quick LM & RM with great passing & dribbling would be advantageous.
442 holding
The more Defensive version of 442. In this version of the formation we replace the CM's With 2 CDM's. Ideally 1 of these CDM's Should have high/high work-rates. Again utilising a Quick LM & RM with great passing & dribbling would be ideal
Again The standard Back 4, The difference in this formation is swapping your Midfield for 2 x CDM and 2 X CAM. The play in this formation is concentrated more centrally, Sacrificing your L & R Midfielders for CAM's
The More Attacking version of this formation. Swapping your L & R Midfielders for L & R wingers. This formation draws much of the play towards the Wingers, Fast and Agile Wingers are an advantage here. Ideally 1 of your Strikers would be an aerial threat, being tall and good heading attributes.
One of the more unusual formations. Here you have the standard back 4. 2 X CDM, 3 X CAM and 1 Striker. Much of the play in this formation with be through the middle - Strong CAM's and an "All rounder" Striker would be ideal for this formation.
4231 (wide)
Standard back 4 - This formation utilises a wide midfield supported by 2 CDM's & a CAM. Again due to this being a Solo Striker formation a strong "all rounder" Striker would be an advantage.
4312
This formation is very close to the 41212 narrow but rather than 2 CM's and CDM seen in that formation, this one uses 3 CM's. Ideally versatile CM's - 1 more defensive, 1 more attacking and 1 who can dribble and pass well .
Very Similar formation to the 4231 wide, but swapping out the CDM's for CM's and The CAM for a CF. The CF is a lesser used card, so CAM's and ST's with alternative positions of CF may be better utilised.
Another Solo Striker formation - play can either come through the middle or out on the wings. With this formation you swap out a ST or CAM for a CDM for extra strength in the midfield. Again a good solo striker is advisable.
Yet another Solo striker formation. This one swaps out the CDM from the 4141 formation for an extra CM. With this formation you can dominate the midfield or play out from the wings. Again a variety of CM's with skills that compliment each other (attacking, defensive & a passing/dribbling)
451
This formation is similar to the 4231 formation but replaces CDM's and CAM's for a CM and 2 Wide midfielders. Strong midfield with fast wide midfielders is ideal for this formation. Again a competent Solo Striker would be Ideal
3 At The Back Formations
352
3 at the back formations remove the LB & RB and lets you utilise 3 CB's.
352 gives you 2 CDM's in midfield making this a strong formation especially in VSA.
2 strikers and 1 CAM give this a great balance between the defensive and offensive players.
343 (Flat)
This version brings your midfield to be more "balanced" giving you 2 CM's. 2 wide midfielders along with LW & RW pulls the play more to the wings. A solo ST supported with the wide players can make this formation very effective in all game modes
This version of the 3 At the Back formation replaces the 2 x CM's in the previous formation giving you a CDM and CAM instead. Another formation that is effective in VSA
This version of the 3 At the Back formation gives you a different style of play. 2 Strikers and a CAM makes this more offensive than some of the other formations in this "group"
This version makes use of a CF in replacement of the 2nd ST. 2 x CDM & 1 X CM pulls some of the play deeper in the midfield. There is no CAM in this formation - again there are less CF's available so a CAM or ST with CF as alternative position would work well here
5 at the back formations utilise Left & Right wingbacks. There are very few players who are natural wingbacks. Either a LB, RB, LM or RM with alternative positions would be the best option. The 5 At the back makes these formations more defensive minded.
5221
5 At the back, 2 CM's 1 x LW, 1 X RW & 1 x ST. In my opinion, a little thin in the middle of the pitch, heavy on the defence, heavy on attack, thin in the midfield
This formation is a little more balanced than the previous. Left & Right Midfielders with 1 x CDM & 1 x CAM along with a solo Striker. Like all 5 At the Back formations, heavier on the defence. Solo striker formation - so requires good solo Striker
This formation allows for a balance between defense and attack, providing a solid backline with the wing backs contributing to the offensive play. Players with high stamina, pace, and good crossing attributes for wing backs, and strong defensive stats for center backs and central midfielders, would be ideal. The CAM should have excellent vision, passing, and dribbling skills, while the strikers should be chosen based on their ability to score goals, with considerations for different attributes like heading, finishing, and agility depending on your tactical approach.
This formation emphasizes a strong defensive structure with the ability to counter-attack quickly or control the game through the midfield. The wing-backs provide width, while the central midfield trio can adapt to different roles based on the team's needs during the match.
